Free, timed community runs are gaining momentum across the valley—here’s how to join in and where to find your closest 5k meet.

If you set your alarm for sunrise most Saturdays, there’s a good chance you’ll spot a brightly clad crowd lining up near the iconic welcome sign at Cornerstone Park in Henderson. They’re not lining up for a concert or a street market—this is parkrun: a free, timed 5k run that now draws hundreds of Las Vegans each week, regardless of age or pace.
This surge in weekly, community-based runs matters now more than ever. With temperatures smashing June records—official data logged a peak of 112°F in central Las Vegas last Friday—finding safe, early morning ways to get active is a priority for local residents dodging the heat. Structured group events like parkrun provide not only fitness, but also camaraderie, accountability and a sense of routine—essentials for mental health as well as physical well-being, as confirmed by Clark County’s latest community health assessment. For shift workers and busy parents, the 7am start time means the exercise is out of the way before the day gets oppressive.
Las Vegas currently boasts two official parkrun venues: Cornerstone Park in Henderson (1600 Wigwam Parkway) and Exploration Peak Park in Enterprise, just off Buffalo Drive near Mountains Edge. Cornerstone, with its paved lakeside paths, draws families and seasoned athletes alike, while Exploration Peak’s gently rolling trails offer shade and panoramic Strip views. Both events operate entirely through local volunteers and are coordinated under the international parkrun nonprofit, known for its "timed-but-friendly" approach and barcode-based result tracking. Free registration is available online, and runners just need to print their unique barcode to participate. Local running groups like the Las Vegas Runners and Desert Tortoises have started to use these Saturday events as regular meetups.
Participation has grown fast since the first Las Vegas event in fall 2023. According to parkrun USA, Cornerstone Parkrun averaged 104 finishers per event last month, while Exploration Peak saw a record turnout of 61 on June 22. Runners range from first-timers to 70-year-old regulars. Entry is always free—no sign-up costs or on-the-day fees. Volunteers fill more than 15 roles each week per park, handling everything from timekeeping to tail-walking. Parking at both parks is free before 8am, and water fountains are open year-round, although runners are advised to bring their own in the summer months.
Several participants have cited parkrun as their gateway into regular exercise: the Clark County Community Survey from May 2026 found that outdoor fitness events in public parks have increased 23% in attendance year-on-year, with the largest spike evident at free, all-ages events like parkrun. Among local athletes surveyed, "low cost" and "sense of community" ranked highest as motivators to attend these meetups.
Anyone can join a parkrun—just register once at parkrun.us, print a barcode, and show up before 7am at Cornerstone or Exploration Peak. Dogs (on a short leash) and strollers are welcome. For newcomers, organizers recommend arriving 15 minutes early for a first-timers briefing. If you live in Summerlin, locals are petitioning for a third parkrun at Pueblo Park, although city approval is pending. To stay updated, check the schedule and weekly results on each event’s dedicated webpage.
As Las Vegas braces for a string of hot weekends, more residents are expected to opt for early mornings on the trails. Organizers emphasize sunscreen, hats and hydration. For those unable to run, volunteering is always an option—no experience required. And with new events on the horizon, the city’s parkrun scene is poised to grow fast. The start line might be closer to your backyard than you think.
