First Friday in the Las Vegas Arts District

Away from the resort corridor, the downtown Arts District has grown into one of the city's most walkable creative neighborhoods. Known locally as 18b, the area is anchored around Main Street and Casino Center Boulevard and is lined with galleries, vintage stores, murals, breweries and independent restaurants.

The Monthly Event

The district is best known for First Friday, a recurring evening event held at the start of each month. Streets fill with art vendors, live music, food trucks and open galleries, and the crowd is a mix of residents, families and visitors. On any day of the month the neighborhood rewards wandering. Large-scale murals cover many walls, the product of ongoing public art programming, and shops trade in records, antiques and handmade goods. The area has also become a hub for coffee roasters and craft beverage makers. Because it is compact, it is easy to cover on foot, and it offers a very different atmosphere from the Strip.

Practical Notes

First Friday draws sizable crowds, so arriving early or using a rideshare can ease parking. The evenings are family friendly in the earlier hours and become more adult later on. The city government promotes the district as part of downtown revitalization, and its listings, along with the event organizers' site, are the best places to confirm dates, road closures and participating venues before heading down.
